Q – THE GAME HAS BEEN OUT A NUMBER OF WEEKS; COMPARING IT TO 2019, WHAT IMPROVEMENTS HAVE YOU FOUND THUS FAR AND DO YOU THINK ITS A BETTER ALL ROUND GAME?”
“CodeMasters have really hit a sweet spot when it comes to annualised games, they’ve all been very solid since about 2016. This year has the usual graphical upgrades and AI tweaks.
But the input of real F1 drivers over the COVID lockdown is very evident both in terms of the new ERS deployment and just the way the cars handle.
The addition of MyTeam has been great, that’s a mode I’ve really enjoyed. I’m much more of an arcade/casual racer and I’ve been able to tailor the experience to that. It is a great all round package for all levels and the best so far.”
Q – YOU’VE BEEN WITH US A NUMBER OF SEASONS AND SEEM TO BE AN EVER IMPROVING DRIVER. WHAT’S BEEN THE KEY IMPROVEMENTS?
“I play alot of single player and have been steadily increasing the difficulty as I go so I’ve had to improve in order to do well in the career mode. Being a fan of the game helps as well because it means I play it a lot so I’m getting experience, and I want to improve but not lose that fun factor (a point I will come back to).”
Q – YOU UTILISE THE BEHIND THE CAR CAMERA WHICH IS UNUSAL; CAN WE ASK WHY AND WOULD YOU CONSDIER USING ANOTHER CAMERA ANGLE THROUGHOUT THE SEASON?
“I think it’s a case of what I’m used to at this point. Back in the days of me putting 20p into an arcade machine I’ve always used behind the car camera; I just feel much more comfortable with it.
Many have said I would be faster using the cockpit view or any of the first person views, and I probably would be with time and practice, but I just have more fun with this camera angle and fun is paramount to me. Having this angle as well as some assists allows me to get the most enjoyment out of a race so unless I decide to try and really get good, I’m probably just going to stick with it.”
Q – TOUCHING UPON THE SEASON, WE’RE NORMALLY INTERESTED IN RACING SHORTER SEASONS HOWEVER THE FIRST SEASON INTO 2020 WE’RE LOOKING AT 11 RACES, SO HALF THE CALENDAR OF TRACKS; DO YOU SEE THIS AS A POSITIVE OR A NEGATIVE?
“Like most things it’s a bit of both. It’s a lot of weekends for people to commit to so I can a few dropping out but if someone does miss a race, there’s more chance to make up the lost points. Plus a longer season rewards consistancy more.”
Q – WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS FOR THE SEASON MOVING FORWARD?
“To finish in a points position each race or in the case of Monaco, complete the race using less than 4 wings!”
Q – WHO DO YOU SEE AS YOUR MAIN COMPETITOR(S) IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP?
“Howling Crazy and RSF1Locker. Howling and I always seem to have close races and I wasn’t too far off Locker last season so him being my team mate this time could prove very interesting.”
Q – AND FINALLY, THE ALL IMPORTANT QUESTION THESE DAYS! WHO DO YOU THINK WILL WIN THIS SEASON’S DRIVERS’ CHAMPIONSHIP?
“If they make all the races, I’m going to go for LLouth.
They were so consistant last season (averaged 19 points a race) if they keep that up over 11 races they’ll be top at the end.
There’s some great drivers this season but do they have Llouths consistancy? That’s a tough one.”
